If you're there...
Can you hear me?' , the computer cackles.
'I can hear you but I can't see you'...
Frantic fingers tapping back the message.
Poorly produced clichè seance scene.
No floating table. No flicker of lights.
A floating head appears.
The mouth opens. Then closes.
The horror of the next two hours
reveals itself in bits and bytes.
The medium is struggling to connect.
About this poem
This humourous poem parallels the online teaching experience with a seance. The word 'medium' has the double meaning of the online connection and the spiritualist medium. The fear of failing to get the lesson off the ground transforms into a hackneyed horror film scene.
