I couldn't Be Your Forever

You asked if I was your forever,
I couldn’t promise you something,
I could never deliver.

You and I have changed,
I have gotten sick, frail, and regretful,
My body, mind, and heart are not the same,
I have overcome, failed, and grown.

I can never be your forever,
But I have stood by you,
Through the tears, joy, and the mundane,
Hapless and senile we sat together,
My heart might have failed me.

I adored you,
Forever.
