One Autumn Morning In '83 (2)

He said, "America is sinking fast the bottom
Of the earth, because of...like you!!!"
I got up and proceeded to leave the park,
Still unable to say anything. The man, at this point,
In rapid-fire fashion was bullying and berating me
That I wished to God, The Almighty I could be
Invisible even for a second or two, right there...
And that He would make him see the light, because
He was so lost in a world, so dark and so wrong
That I felt so, so bad...to have seen and heard.
I could only mumble a prayer...in my heart (the only place
Where I am able to talk, write and yes, read...in English.)
I went home and hugged my wife and children,
Still without saying anything, until I heard one of them say,
"Daddy, for lunch, I want us to go to KFC,"
To which I responded, a resounding "Amen!"
At the place, while enjoying my meal with
My wife and children, I felt like I was the happiest
And luckiest 'settler' in this greatest country
In God's green and hospitable earth.
