Where I'm from

People will ask me where i’m from
And I will say
I’m from a place of midnight walks
And midnight talks

Where green street lamps glow and light the bugs below it
They croak and cackle at the passersby

And I will say
I’m from a place where the lonely are at ease
The lonely know of peace
Where my memories become collected
Until too unimportant to not be forgotten

I’m from a place inside of me
Peacefully but gothically themed
And it is just astounding enough to let me smile
When I’m reminded of a time when I was who I am not anymore

People will ask me where I’m from
And I will say
I’m from a place where the stars turn into little glowing people
Who look at me from above
And if a single tear were to ripple my cheek
They would glow brightly
For me to see the beauty in sentiments
Sent from the heart

So when people ask me where i’m from
I won’t tell of a place on a map
I’ll tell of where my mind belongs to
I’ll tell of where I go to be lonely

About this poem

This poem is inspired by the author George Ella Lyon and her book, "Where I'm from." My whole life I have been called a daydreamer, someone who is always in my own world or always in my thoughts. When I first read George Ella Lyons book, I tried to mimic how she described her physical world. As I continued writing I realized that I am really from a place inside of me.
