My name is Kim. I live in Belfast in Northern Ireland. I am 62 years of age. I am a semi retired civil servant working in admin. In my spare time I enjoy spending my time with my friends walking and going for coffee. My Christian faith is very important to me and I would describe myself as very contemplative. I belong to a church group in person and also a contemplative group online. My hobbies are taking photos, writing poems, reading and a bit of gardening. I am a vegetarian and enjoy cooking vegetarian meals. I am a great animal lover and at present my family consists of my 15 year old tabby cat April and my 15 year old Shih Tzu dog Ben. At present I am doing two online courses. One on nature writing and the other on poetry. I am new to writing poems and have only started a few months back. I am enjoying being part of this community and the people are very friendly and supportive. Written on 8th May 2024. Kim

The Mourne Mountains Short Story

The day had started out sunny and warm. So, I decided to take myself off on a walk up the Mourne Mountains. The Mournes are well known for their beauty and splendour in Northern Ireland and throughout the world. They are majestic and filled with...

The Waterfall

Deep in the forest is the waterfall,
Surrounded by trees that are strong and tall,
I gaze at the water splashing and free,
Tumbling and tossing it satisfies me.

No restraints, no restrictions its clear waters fall,
Inviting, invigorating I...

The Cavehill Short Story

The Cavehill

Here I am sipping a pink grapefruit and green coffee Vital drink on ice. I’m sitting in The Cat Garden in the grounds of Belfast Castle within The Cavehill Country Park in North Belfast. The sun is hot on my skin so I am glad of the...

Spanish Bluebells

Spanish bluebells drooping down,
Their beauty and splendour does abound,
A rich carpet of pink and blue,
God's creation for me and you.

The fairest of maidens in a dance,
Swaying and swooping to find romance,
Their beautiful gowns fit for a...

My Patch My Garden – Going Deeper

Another spring day and here I am again in my patch – my garden. I decide to take photos of my shrubs and stay around them for much longer. I feel the warm spring sunshine on my skin as I go about taking photos...

thank you. I am doing a course on nature writing online. So sometimes it is a poem and sometimes it is prose. The Mournes are a beautiful mountain range in Northern Ireland which I have been to many times. Thankfully with friends and never on my own. The story is fictional but it was to show the beauty of nature and how nature is also cruel at times. Something I was asked to do in my online course. I am keeping well and I hope you are also. Kim

thank you. I know this platform is for poems but as I am also doing an online creative writing course on Nature I like to upload it here as I've got it typed up. The Cavehill is just fifteen minutes walk from me and a beautiful place to walk in Belfast. One of Belfast's famous beauty spots. Kim

Not my poem but a beautiful poem and timeless. It could be read in a hundred years time and still have a deep meaning. Poem written in 1302 and then translated into English by Rabindranath Tragore.
