My Bird

Nicolaas Goosen 2005 (Cape Town, South Africa)

Kind as a swan
With chicks ‘neath her wing
Beautiful as a dove
With her glow compelling
Funny as a chick
First beginning to sing

That’s my bird
My bird, she is!

She fills my heart
With endless joy
Like a newly wrapped gift
To a playful boy
Oh how I yearn
To be all her’s
And all for this
My heart still spurs

That’s a bird
A bird, she is!

Though conclusions
Draw too sad
To have met her
I feel a luck young lad
