Poem for a stranger
Tammara Cappellano 1958 (Vancouver, Wa)
Poem for a Stranger
To the woman I spoke to for a moment in time
today...this is for you.
While I sat there in the pharmacy
Waiting for my name;
There was another woman
Who was doing just the same.
I found a row of empty seats
And I sat there on my phone
Until a woman walked past me
Crying and alone.
She walked right up to face the wall;
As the tears ran down her cheek.
Her face was filled with so much fear
Looking very scared and weak.
I moved my things to clear a chair
And asked if she’d sit down.
She took the seat right next to me
And her crying was profound.
I felt so sad and helpless
For this person I don’t know
I wish I could have eased her pain
For I’m a kindred soul.
As she sat there crying
What was there I could say?
I only knew one certain thing.
For her tonight I’d pray.
As we sat there silently
Her name was finally called
The pharmacist gave her medicine
To sleep as I recall.
As I was in the parking lot
I saw her yet again.
And she was still there sobbing
As if her life was going to end.
All my love goes out today
From someone I don’t know
And for a minute here today…
Please know you weren't alone…

About this poem
This is a poem I wrote after my visit to the doctor. I was so emotionally affected that this poem just flowed out from my head and my heart onto paper.
