Sunset at York

The shadows grow long
with the sun to his back.
The waves softly roll,
leaving behind a gentle slap.
The gulls soar overhead,
surveying for a snack.
Whilst a canine below
plots his careful attack
He springs into action;
Runs as fast as he can!
But these birds are savvy
and have an elaborate escape plan!
True, dogs can swim
but birds--they can fly
and with that advantage
they can escape in no time.
What chance then has a dog,
in a world full of birds?
Same as the poet;
Always chasing his words.
