Note to Self

Jay Ford 1984 (Youngstown, Ohio)

At the end I will go home to my mind,
Aware of the truth to which before I was blind.
As I loosen the knot of the tie that binds,
I feel I must at least thank you for your time.
You filled my head with dark clouds.
Made me feel alone in a crowd.
Romance forgotten, borderline despised.
A smile that was nothing but despair disguised.
But a new day is here, and it's much brighter.
The burden on my mind is now much lighter.
Still a little broken, but I'm on the mend.
Through a positive outlook, I shall transcend.
A years-long war finally with an end in sight.
In this battle for sanity, I'm my own white knight.
I will win, but only in due time.
Only then can I go home to my mind...
