The sky is feminine

Doesn't it feel like the sky is feminine
Constantly triggering some sort of reminiscence
Sometimes a melody; occasionally malady
A vast spectrum; thought-provoking efficacy
Sheer feminine at times changes every minute
Obscure at moments, luminescent at others
Incredibly vast that it can't be contained
Yet so limiting it wobbles the brain
At times it's moody, clouds spread broody
On evenings it's seductive, nonetheless shy

The nighttime sky instills romantic melancholy
Sometimes sinister, sometimes holy
It relays the moon as if it's embraced
On other nights the moon seems to ache
Mostly so quiet although flamboyant
Regardless mysterious, keeps the onlooker despondent
Sometimes so bright, inculcating life
At times so dull, and hard to decipher
Containing so much, no definite measure
Silent all night wishes the burden was lesser

The sky feels feminine, it has a warm gaze
So distant yet approachable, caressing embrace
Consoling unconsoled hearts, endorsing deepest convictions
The sky is a haven for artists and musicians
A plethora of grandeur, coveted to be touched
Simultaneously forlorn, with moonlight strokes
A shelter to many, an infinite realm of mystery
Obvious at moments, potent regardless
Countless attributions may make the mind fleet
But if the sky is feminine, it's anything but defeat

About this poem

Being a designer by profession, the sky is my most significant source of inspiration. It never fails to mesmerize me. On the other hand, I am also a zealous advocate of women's rights. Mainly because in culturally regressive societies like Pakistan (my hometown), women have to endure a lot of atrocities. The cerebral qualities that Pakistani women possess leave me awestruck every time. Hence, I have fused my two inspirations together and written this poem. This poem was written while observing sunrise on a monsoon day in June. The magnificent and somewhat intimidating character of the sky provoked me to write poetry.

Aymen Hasan

I'm a 22 years old, textile designer from Lahore, Pakistan. I grew up in Lahore which is evolving into a metropolitan city. Living in a third-world country gives a lot of learning and eye-opening experiences. Being a girl in a culturally regressive society like my hometown has been nothing short of a challenge in itself. Apart from drawing, painting, and designing clothes, I particularly enjoy poetry. It is a source of catharsis for me. I mostly write poetry while meditating and mostly my poems are fresh thoughts. Seeking financial support and international endorsement is my main reason for publishing my poem on this platform. more…
