The Butterfly and The Bee
The Butterfly and the Bee
Upon The bush outside my window,
Beneath the autumn sun;
Branches swaying with the breeze,
Purple flowers all but done.
Upon the branches bowing heavily,
Beautiful butterflies will perch.
Atop those wilting purple blooms
For tasty nectar they will search.
Upon the lively purple blossoms
Enticing all the fluttering;
Another creature in the mix,
The buzzing bee seen hovering…
Upon the bush outside my window.
Two types of flying creatures,
They coexist within their world,
With such different features.
Upon the branches bowing heavily,
My clippers they must chop;
To rid my yard of all the buzzing
The danger I must stop.
Upon the fading purple blossoms,
Quietly lying on the ground,
Gone is danger! Gone is beauty!
The two friends forever bound.
About this poem
Inspired by my backyard butterfly bush, gorgeous to look at and my children run in fear because of all the bees! I explain to them that often the scariest things in life are the most beautiful.
