The Moon and the Sun

E. Kibi. 1997 (Maryland)

You cannot say I am the moon
When i know you are the sun.
You cannot love me so tenderly, gently
When I am so fragile.
You cannot catch my stumble
When I seek it.
You cannot love me
When I love you.
I cannot fall for you
As I have for this long.
I cannot smile at your voice
As I have innumerable times before.
I cannot call you my darling
As you want me to
I cannot love you any longer,
As I forbade myself to again.

About this poem

This poem was written when I was just 17 years old. I have always loved the art of storytelling through poetry and I believe this was my first go at trying so myself.
