In The Fray
My mirror lately is so shy of me
Shards in which she poses of varying reflections
Some overwhelmed in gleam
Some where shadows are wrought
Some yielding a smile
Of what once, a symphony
Now so achingly, schizophrenic.
And she's been curious what threads all this together?
Thought it was love
Thought it'd all be enough
For even I, don't know how to hold this all together
And I fail my frame every time I seek you close
It seems we're both alone in this home.
There's a vacancy, of electricity
When I meet your hand
And time's a whirlwind
Carrying so disparately through this room
I don't know where we'll land
You're on the sofa (so far)
I'm on the floor by your feet
And your hands are running through my hair
Are you wondering, maybe spooling your fingers
Along the decay, with each gentle lap
Of your fingers?
The silence is a mediator
While I'm washing dishes in a dungeon
You're blowing on a cigarette just to breath
Mundane artefacts to pause against
For we both know how ugly it gets
With each undress
But the walls are threatening to break
As the sun idles against this fray
And shadows, weighing in depths
For words to cast adrift
What is the latest, of your cruel gifts
I lean in behind you, in where I can't walk beside (for now it seems I loom)
But I remind of burdens
And the silence implores war.
They're no new doors to greet these days
They're no new doors to something more
I was baffled why you'd want it for
And one final knob, to dial me away
Wonder what'll history say
We're all out of lapses to make
I love you, but the kindness grows into indifferent performances
Passions stifled into chores
We're now a kind of odd ordinary & there's no cure
And there's no compassionate vantage
To observe a disaster
No ray of warmth, could rouse against
The cold clutches of death
Only to mourn what's left
Of what once felt, a soul
Who knew best.
