The Shadow
The Shadow
Enduring in the shadow,
Dwelling there by choice.
A refuge of security,
Tranquility enjoyed.
Tucked-in tight from every angle,
In a fortress deep and wide.
No smothering isolation,
Free to spread one’s wings and fly.
Life came to be a mishap rut,
Desperation as its guide.
Worldly ways—fleeting and shallow,
Self-improvement—born of pride.
Medication—robbed motivation,
Twelve Steps—much to discern.
Condemnation—pluck your own log,
Will Power—Grit the burn.
Of intent none call for darkness,
Nor request the law’s long reach
A mess of fueled frustration,
Resolutely hunting for relief.
Beckoned to the shadow,
Rescue’s rope is clutched when thrown,
Broken repentance gains contentment,
To think clearly and steady grow.
Faith proves to be of merit,
Staying sane though trials abound.
Under the shadow of The Almighty,
Pleased daily to be found!
About this poem
Psalm 91:1 speaks of the only true source of rescue, “the shadow of the Almighty”. I am on the other side of a long struggle with being out of control in many areas of my life, Over the years , many forms of rescue were offered/tried without a, “from the inside out”, heart change This speaks of my journey to finding the heart of rescue and living the promise of Psalm 91:1 (easy to remember-911 the call number for help/rescue). Psalm 91:1 “He wo dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. ” more »
