Dream For a Friend
Last night I awoke from a dream,
a dream that had seemed so real,
that I believed the Lord had come
and taken me to heaven.
I walked the streets of a glorious place
and gazed upon the sweetest face.
The light of love shown all around,
and my feet seemed to float above the ground.
All my love ones gone before
were there with their faces full of joy.
They beckoned me to come and eat
and celebrate the wedding feast.
I kissed the cheek of my dear mother
and hugged the neck of a cherished brother.
I shared a happy memory
with a sister dear to me.
We sang a song of praise and glory,
and I told again the wonderful story
of how His love had set me free.
Then I knelt on bended knee
to honor and to worship my God.
Last night I awoke from a dream,
a dream that had seemed so real,
that I believed the Lord had come
and taken me to heaven.
As I walked the streets of that glorious place,
I searched for that familiar face.
With the light of love shining all around,
surely I would hear the sound
of that sweet voice I'd heard before,
and the friend that I adored
would come and sit with me and eat,
and we'd celebrate the wedding feast.
Then Jesus came and drew me near,
and reached to wipe away my tears,
and took away the memory
of that friend so dear to me,
who I would never see again.
Awakened I knew the saddest thing
would be to spend eternity
without even a memory
of you.
Come and meet my God.
About this poem
A few weeks after having an actual dream about Heaven and the immeasurable joy and peace in the light of the presence of God, I asked Him for a way to witness to someone I cared deeply for. This poem came from my pen as if guided by His hand, the easiest thing I ever wrote. I have shared it with many people who also wished to use it as a way to reach the lost who they loved.
