The Distance (All I Know)

Maggie Austin 1979 (Coos Bay, Oregon)

When dreams become too far to see,
And reality, too far to touch,
We lose sight of what we hope to be
And inside we begin to give up.

When we can't hold on,
And we seem to grow apart,
The hours seem so long,
And the days wear on the heart.

When days turn into nights,
And months into years,
You think everything's alright,
Until the memories bring on the tears.

When the last word is spoken,
And we embrace for the final time,
A world of unknown becomes open,
A world that has now become mine.

But I'll always believe in us,
No matter how life goes.
In this you can trust,
And this is all I know.
