The road to happiness
Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)
Just the other day
i went to see
a woman friend
On the job,
when i finally
had to say goodbye
It hit me hard
Someone special
to everyone she met
Her poise, style, grace
And conversation,
were hard to beat
Does everyone want
that kind of person?
That is a joy to spend time with.
Can you be that
to the person you know
Who deserves that special gift…?
Holding hands
because it brings you closer
Maybe even share
a passionate loving kiss
Although, i may never
get a real chance
With the dream of her
as my loving wife
It brings to mind
important lessons
I am learning in my life
Thinking of what i love
About the people, i know best
I began to see a pattern
That leaves me very much impressed
Walking from here to find that road
Of love and happiness
Finding that if you do it right
the first time,
You will be doubly blessed
Some easy lessons you can do
Not just for your health.
If you do not believe what you stand for
why should anybody else.
There is more to learn about other people
if you are interested
Nothing is sweeter than the lessons
you can learn watching over your kids
Show them that deep contemplation
Will ease the pain of waiting
(some folks call it praying)
Show them that confrontation
Is neither the best nor the only way
To deal with their frustrations
(which are just life’s tests)
Show them that
There is one true way to be very their best
One sure way to find their happiness
Is to look at every other person
The same way that you see yourself
If they are doing what you, do
What does that say about you?
No one can make you do anything
That you really do not want to
What someone says
will never make it true
The most important things in life are lessons
that cost what money cannot buy
Like your reputation among people,
Please do not lie to those that you love
and upon which you rely
Like your attitude (calm, cool, perceptive)
Nice, but firm... Never cruel or rude
Unless somebody tries to take you for
A simple-minded fool
Like being a fair minded person
When every one else around
is acting mean and cruel
Conducting yourself
focused and directed
People believe you blessed
With wisdom and vision
So, like people are naturally
Attracted to be your friends
Bringing your life’s course
Into in a new dimension
So confidently you walk,
You are starting to take hold
Everybody can see nothing less
Than self-respect and self-control
As you develop more experience
In what you do
Your reformation becomes
The latest definition of cool
As you continue to progress
You get your wings
Naturally, your mind moves
On to other things
Sexual prowess is a different test
It is a spiritual and emotional battle
Of self-conquest
You must learn in the truth,
The secrets to loving yourself
Before you can deal
with the trials And errors
loving somebody else
Be careful, sometimes,
foolish people
Will try to get to you
Before you realize
Just what they are trying to do,
Do not let their mean-spirited illusions
Put you on the ropes
Bringing you
nothing but confusion,
Broken dreams and false hopes,
Their only true skills are subterfuge,
Stealing, cheating, and lying
You will come to find out later
With what games
they were trying
Trouble may come in many colors
Shades, shapes, and sizes
Just do not fall for their problematic
Invocations of many disguises
Let me reveal to you a truth,
It is not hard to find the answer
With an amazing, test so simple,
That is almost foolproof
Like-minded people
Live their dreams every day
Treating people with respect
In every way
they work hard
Doing only, what they perceive
Makes for a good example
What a person can achieve
Let your children know
That you love them unconditionally
Showing compassion ways,
Others may find hard to believe
You must be honest when you are dealing
With someone that you really care about
Be fair with your sense of values
In all your dealings,
Be genuine with other people
And careful with your true feelings
And to keep others out of your business
Be honest with your efforts,
Always do your best,
you are only one person
And true you will find
there is no treasure
Greater than peace of mind
In finding someone that you truly love
You must never accept a substitute
Or you may find yourself
Trapped by something on fire
You really did not deserve,
nor truly desire
Judge a tree by its fruit
and not by its wine
You will become wiser,
wealthy in time
Do not be fooled by a pretty person,
In the perfect package of your dreams
Funny how appearances change
Into things not always, what they seem
Someone who that treats you like a possession
They may not love you for your self-expression
Can be nasty, cruel, and thoughtless and mean
That is not good for your health esteem
Moreover, when they cannot trick you
They will steal from you
Money, happiness, peace of mind
Or even your dreams
Beware of pretty people, acting
What seems sophisticated acting cute
Do not be tricked by a smooth talker
Just because they wear a business suit
From smooth talking and fast lives, refrain
It’s guaranteed to will bring you pain
Always be true to yourself you will find
Yourself among loving people fair and kind
Stay away from people
Who always say they will change
The oldest profession
is the confidence game
Although loving people also
Have sometimes
to live in pain
Remember loving people
Will try to stay the same
Somebody who loves you never is rude,
Or treats you like some kind of prostitute
They will stick by you thru thick and thin,
Ever constant and enduring,
As they always have been
If their love for you is as real as it seems
They have love, true, even in their dreams
When it comes to people
Bringing bad news to you,
Listen carefully to your own heart
There you will find the truth
Real love has class but no pride;
True value comes only from the inside
If you get fooled by trusting someone,
Who is running a trick
You must change your course
Your actions, direction, change them quick
Do not get yourself caught up
Into another’s person’s game
It is far easier to change your path
Than to change your name
It is so easy to see your perspective
From where you are
Just remember you do not have
The nine lives of a cat
This truth is something if you do it right
You escape needless pain and lies
Unnecessary traps,
For if, you continue to walk
Along the wrong path
You will travel ever deeper
Into a scheme or trap
It is so easy to get lost walking
With your carefree stride
Forgetting from where your footsteps came
When you first arrived
Getting all wrapped up
In having a great time
Filled with false emotions
Can only make you blind
Waking up somewhat later,
Drunk with the wine
Of broken-hearted vision,
Having wasted precious time
Even worse as later, you might even find
Caught up in a situation with ties that bind
If you are not careful sometimes,
Getting caught up in the trap of pride
Moreover, wind up with a foolish risk taker
On a roller coaster ride
And if that alone does not make you sick
And make you choke
Leave you even lose your right mind
Ending up taking dope
Should you be caught up?
Do not lose all hope
There are many dangerous lies
With which you must cope
You might fall into a worse trap
A beautiful, but false attraction
You give all they only get bored
In addition, you get no action
So seductive fun and carefree,
Yet, something odd makes you uneasy
The charm wears off
Soon you will see more
Beneath the veneer,
The reality may be rotten to the core
Do not be tempted
By the consequences of their elation
All they should ever get from you
Is conversation
Above emotions, needs and wants
The cost of doing things halfway
Will have you stuck paying bills
You should never have to pay
When you find someone special,
Worthy of your love
Their very presence is a constant joy
A blessing from above
Make them feel special
Every time you meet them, else
Treat them even better than
You would normally treat yourself
Finding that when they show appreciation
They will make you feel
That you are getting back in every way
The best possible deal
Never forget in each moment
Of each day what you work so hard for
Will never fail to have greater appreciation,
which brings you greater rewards
So do not cheat yourself
Playing mind games with a fool
You set yourself up every time
Playing by somebody else’s rules
Whatever so you reap, so you will sow,
So always be true to you
Do not do what you know in your heart
Things that you should not do
You can lose everything
That is most important to you
Your happiness, reputation,
Even your life can be lost
Someone with nothing to lose
Never seems to mind the cost
Protect the spirits and emotions
Of those you love,
They are sent here as the gift
From the one above,
They are the truest measure of love
And the spring of your health
The strength of your commitment,
The secret of true wealth
You will get the fullest measure.
Remember never to cheat
If you disregard the rules,
You are almost certain
To get beat
You only get one chance
to do it right In every way
So give them your best
Practice it everyday
When children are involved,
Be careful what you say
No matter what goes wrong
They know that they will be okay
When they get your full attention
Each and everyday
Nevertheless, show them
there is a price
They will always have to pay
Teach them by your example
(Yes, i know it is hard)
They understand
more than you think
(in this regard)
Although it’s not so easy
To do the right thing
It really does not matter
If you are a fool or king
The rewards are so much sweeter
It will make you want to sing
When your best-efforts bear
The fruits it will surely bring
Life is just too short
to hang around People
who always wink and nod,
Playing computer games
Watching soap operas on the job,
There is no benefit to you
In your being selfish, playing God
Listening to boogie woogie waltzs
And hip-hop rhythms from your i pod.
When you have learned
These important lessons
Remember
That there is a simple reason
That we must give back
What is given to us…
There are many people in despair
Who might find comfort and desire
Of what we may have in abundance
things we may not want or need…
Keep something in reserve for the one,
You want to be your last...
Remember to give your love freely
And abundantly
As if it were to be returned
Just as frequently
(However, do not include your ass)
Forgive yourself
show consideration for the people
you may have wronged in your past.
Live every moment of your life
As a point of reflection
If not for your future happiness
Let it be for your self-protection
Take care of your body.
Work your share
For what you trust and believe in,
That is what lets people know
That you really care
However, do not to work too hard
Your children are not your property.
They are a gift from… ***
(The creator)
C2
I am neither a prophet nor a scholar,
Just a man who has observed
Many misfortunes others or i might have made
That might just as easily have been avoided
All i might ask of you
is to be wiser than i have been
So that you will always be blessed
To travel with like-minded people
on the road to happiness
