Snap Out Of It! Wake Up!
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Wake up!
Snap out of this addicting belief,
Elected to pick from leaders to wish...
Them to be honest and direct,
With the telling the truth as it is?
Paid they are,
To be convincing politicians.
Performers of law and order to obey.
Accepted and approved.
After rehearsing to practice,
Their every move.
And some to achieve appearing on the stage,
Are not quite Emmy, Tony or Oscar winners.
Yet deliver they do incredible bravery!
For attempting to perform,
Both truth and honesty to quote as written.
What is it that they say that makes you,
Other people and...well, me too!
Turn off our thinking process.
Done to give common sense away?
To know the overwhelming smell of nonsense.
And...
Familiar with it.
The business of politics,
Is successfully accomplished...
By the ones who have studied,
How this game is played.
And not a word from them heard to hear,
As to what it is they want and made clear...
Their money spent,
To endorse and support.
With a lavishing upon them expensive gifts.
Can be stopped.
Quicker than the snapping of fingers.
Awakening anyone,
Deep asleep to hear them repeatedly pop!
'Hey!
You told me to wake you up early.
Do you can do it and go vote!'
'I had this dream.
And in it this homeless guy told me,
He once had been wealthy.
With a going to purchase,
Anything he wanted...
From a neighborhood store.
And...
The owner of that store had said,
If he ran for political office...
Never again would he need to worry,
About anything for the rest of his life.
And he, the owner of that store,
Guaranteed he would win.
As long as he did what he was told!'
'Wow.
What a dream.
What a fantasy to fiction,
That could happen as a possibility.
Well...
Anyhow,
Get up.
Brush your teeth.
Shower, dress and go vote!'
'I am almost afraid to do it!'
'Afraid?
Afraid of what, who and why?'
'You know that guy who owns that store,
On the corner?
And we laugh at him.
Because of his thick accent?'
'Yeah.
Okay.
What's the mystery?'
'That guy who was homeless?
And told me his story.
Turned around to point at the store owner?
Guess who the store owner was?
'The guy we laughed at with the accent?'
'No!
It was a kid in the store.
Watching what was going on.
Who grew up.
Living right next door to where we live now!'
'Naw. No way.
That same kid who tells us,
Be careful how we treat other people?
That kid who rides his bicycle,
With his shoes untied?'
'Yep!
The same one who goes into the store,
After we do.
To pretend to buy something then leaves!'
'Hmmm...
I wonder what that dream means?'
'I don't know.
But I'm going to vote anyhow!'
'For who?'
'Nunya.'
'Nunya? Nunya who?'
'None ya know to mine yo bizness!'
'Ha.
Ha.
Ha-ha-ha.'
