Daniel
You said I brought you pain
And feelings of inept
You said your life was hell
With every moment we stepped
I'm here to call you out, love
Here to ask you to be honest
We both know I made you happy
Just perhaps not the longest
You made me feel special
When I was the only one
Despite how hard I tried to keep you
You are, after all, your father's son
The screaming tears I cried
The pictures I ripped down and shattered
A future eradicated
But it was only my heart that was battered
Perhaps you were right
As you always thought you were
Perhaps I was never ready
But I know I once loved you, even if it's now a blur
About this poem
A marriage destroyed. A broken heart taking it one day at a time.
