Privileged Citizens
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Don't we all perceive ourselves to be,
Privileged citizens.
Given entitlements to expect and receive.
Who is it that feels,
They are not born to be blessed.
To know themselves living to accept,
Anything presented to delude and fiction...
Their lives to witness this and observe,
That which to them is served to get...
Includes the using of their imagination,
They deserve more and not less,
Than hopeful dreams to chase everyday...
If they stayed faithfully to pray on knees,
To eventually catch a handful of carrots.
Dangling above their heads to believe,
That rabbits were taught to teach...
The exact same thing.
But...
Good luck to have and grab it,
Would come guaranteed.
If they ran to protect each foot.
With a doing to decorate their holes...
In four leaf clovers and rainbows to keep.
Sought and kept secretly.
Without a word heard to brag,
As to how they became celebrated,
Each year to be honored for their bravery...
Easter Sunday.
Without one egg laid by a chicken.
Having their eggs colored and displayed.
Yet not have a day mentioned,
About what they've done to produce...
With effort endeavored,
Everyone and everywhere takes for granted!
