Drowning
I sit here drowning in my sorrow and my own self pity, I remember how it used to be. Nobody will ever be you. I try and I search. I look for someone as tall as you. I look for someone with your sense of dry humor. But I never can find anyone quite like you. Now, I’ve moved on time and time again, but the memories with you are more unforgettable. They are sunken into my brain, like an anchor in the ocean. I feel my past slowly stepping into my brain. It’s you. All I can remember. Even after all the years, the songs still remind me of you. The smells remind me of you, as prominent as the smell of the ocean on a hot summer day. Everything is you. You are in everything. My self pity and sorrow make me sink into a deep dark hole, one of which I can’t get out of. I’m nearly consumed by the overwhelming waves of you. They drown me. The memories one by one keep flooding over me. The good. The bad. The boring. It’s all I remember. It comes back to me. The waves of you.
About this poem
I wrote this poem during a dark time in my life, where I felt like my emotions consumed me. The thought of my ex boyfriend sunk me to the bottom, with no hope of returning to the surface.
