The Family Outcast

Beautiful was my childhood,
A lot of siblings,
To care of the baby,
That was me,
Everyone was at my beck and call,
I was the world around my family.

Then one by one they turned away,
To a life where career or marriage took them,
Thus changing their personal priorities and thoughts,
Then came the next generation of babies,
And then the transition was complete.

No longer was I the favourite,
But no complaints,
For that is the order of things,
I focussed on growing up,
Physically,Mentally and emotionally,
For any demonstration of fondness,
Was a sign of immaturity and weakness.

I remember school,
Only like it was yesterday,
A decade or so of homely life,
Was coming to an end,
It was time to spread my wings,
And soar to the next level,
That was college in a distant unknown land.

But all glorious expectations,
Came to an end by the first year itself,
As I slowly realised some where some how,
Of the wrong turn I had taken,
There was nothing to be said or done,
But to ride the storm through,
For ridicules showered from friend, foe and family alike,
No one wanted to hear my side of the story,
Why would they for I had wasted,
Precious time and money,
Not to mention, harmed my parents health.

My achievements miniscule,
Yet determined was I to make my mark,
I roamed the country and abroad,
Searching for my destination,
A glimpse of respite received,
Often followed by an ocean of despair.

After a decade of Nomadic life,
I finally realised what i was searching,
Was exactly at home sweet home,
Work,shelter,wife and kid,
Nothing more could I ask for,
Years of depression,frustration,loneliness and darkness,
Had finally turned around...,
My status quo as The Family Outcast.
