Butrint
The gods had forgotten summer on Earth / the fortress
had gathered in golden scales
had wrapped itself in miasma and waited
waiting for the return of Priam's grandchildren
(they wandered the same seas with Ulysses)
Zeus Soter had forgotten summer on Earth
and between the quarter-ruined walls the poet
Sighs on a single string
The springs became mud
the mosaic roosters had their broken cry
the stone lion died silently
all were leaving
only the hot summer never left
not even in November
