A Caravan of Souls

A CARAVAN of SOULS

(by d.k.debell)

Through Desert Sands / & Mountain Passes –
We Cross Dead Seas / & Seas of Grasses;
We Drink from Bowls / & Not from Glasses
A Nectar Sweeter / Than Molasses.

We Suffer Failure / Without Disaster –
We Endure Hardships / But Serve No Master;
Like Marbled Stone / We Spurn the Plaster
Our Skin is Bronze / Not Alabaster.

In Drought or Flood / We Blame the Rain –
By Shedding Blood / We Ease the Pain;
We Mythologize / What we can’t Explain
And Ponder the Questions / That Remain.

From Moab to Edom / We Play our Roles
As Performers & Spectators / In this Caravan of Souls;
As Witnessed by the Evidence / Of our Trail of Holes
Left by the Presence of / Our Tent & totem Poles.

In Jars of Clay / We Keep our Mysteries
By Word of Mouth / We Share our Histories;
Without Shame or Fear / & with no Apologies
We Proudly Horde & Display / Long Lost Antiquities.

    Good parsimonious use of sentence structure to depict both contrast and emphasis.

    Great poetic diction to paint images in reader’s mind. Enjoyed reading this and traveling to this fantasy.
