The American Idol 2021
The American Idol 2021
His voice sounds like the desert in my ears,
Like he saved sand at the back of his throat
From the dry valley of his early years
To take us to a place far and remote.
The path he once wore is what he now wrote,
The only water there are tears from his eyes
That he spared like the pain within each note
To tell us how he had to fall to arise.
He woke upside down in a wreck that lies
In the lowest valley of his disgust,
And recalled his life flashed before his eyes:
The time spent on the highway in the dust.
He’s scaled the valley and now he’s a light;
Chayce’s story shines like a comet at night.
About this poem
I wrote this poem about Chayce Beckham after he won American Idol over two year ago. I was really inspired by his story of how he turned his life around, going from someone who got into an accident while drinking under the influence to becoming the American Idol, and feel it fits with the Christian ideal of how anyone, no matter what they've done in the past, can pick themselves right back up again, and use their lives and what they've been thru in their lives, with God's help, for good, and with the newest season of the show in our midst, I thought I would submit this. more »
