Spiritual jargon
Kelley Davies 1983 (Dallas)
They hate those words
That might set them free
I'm lost in a forest
Out to sea
I'm still just a child
In a world so big
Not knowing where to turn
Not knowing when to speak
The spiritual world got me all messed up
I thought I knew something
I'm actually stuck
My head is swimming
With a thousand little thoughts
Even though outside of me
People are distraught
My beliefs won't change anything
But they never die
They're stuck in my head
And they make me dry
I can't speak to others
I don't know what to say
At a point I knew everything
Now it's just decayed
Into a million little pieces
Of who I once was
I've regressed to the point of innocence
Yet I'm still so lost
I'm no good at poetry
I can't write worth a damn
I stretch and try and push
And it still comes out like garbage
I wish I was smart like the others
I try so hard
They all know more than me now
I'm tired and charred
Like a log set ablaze
By its own dying ember
Maybe someday I'll realize
What it's like to remember
