The Deep End

Swimming in the deep end.
Got you feeling distressed up to your neck.
Cheating death just a little beneath the waves.

Kick and push you fight, trying to stay afloat.
Water going inside your head.  
Got you feeling stranded struggling in the deep end.
Look around across the ocean shore no one in sight to pull you out. Got you searching for the edge.

Taste of that salty sea water inside your throat. Can't feel pain, numbed at the knees.
Drifting away beneath the waves.
That current ever so strong.
With no life preserver to hold on.

You keep your head up and back straight.
Fearing not to sink with all your strength. Looking above the sun burning bright above your head. Seagull cries a lonely melody.
You count backwards inside your head to remain calm.

A big cloud covers the sun turning the day into dark. You break concentration tired and weary  you start sink and panic. Water above your head. You close your eyes and say this is it.  

The last breath of bubbles escape from your lungs. Choking one last time you summon that last bit of strength to push and reach out in one less effort. When you feel a strong grip around your arm. Being pulled out of the water and look up and see a red cross.

A sudden rush of oxygen runs through your bones.
Taking a huge deep breath you open your pale blood shot eyes.
Blurred for the moment trying to adjust. The salty water stings your eyes.

A smile looks back a fallen angel has broken your fall and come to your aid. Slowly the sun once again comes out from behind the clouds.
Bringing you back to reality from knocking on deaths door. Escape the wrath of poseidons clutches.

Life stops for a moment and shows it's dark colors, its true nature. Should you be so careless it can be taken away. As you lay on
 that raft taking back to shore. The sun rays gently carass your face once more. The beating inside your head subsides.
 You feel the waves beneath the boat as you float away and thank the Lord. The seagull that flew greets you back on the shore.
