How Frankie Lee Might Have Seen Things Later On
Our house
is made of trees
expertly shaped
and other Earthly-derived
substances
glass
cellulose
plastics
metals
concrete
paint
dirt
leather
rubber
carpet
water
electricity
oil
dog hair
pancakes
attention
deliberateness
connection
awareness
dirty diapers
relaxation
quiet
hammered thumbs
muddy boots
owls at night
crying
deer eating our apples off the tree where they've fallen
toys fading each day in the yard
rabbit hiding under the warmth of the car
a bear
how much time before the hot water runs out
coyotes in the darkness
a fox
a hammock
the distant rush of the river
spring time ring necks
rain on the metal roof
not remembering where we stowed away the shovel
recalled moments
realizing in the moment
Goliath smashing his might against the dog fence
laughing
love
bills
peeing in our yard
watching the stars
foraging for snacks
blueberries
raspberries
blackberries
hazelnuts
peaches
getting the tractor out of the barn
walking to the river when it is too hot inside
ice cream
a cold beer
the creak of the floor right there that only sounds in the dark
the missing cordless phone
peeling paint
skinned knees
come as you are
and other otherworldly things
make it a home
