Journey Mystery

Sitting here in this darkness
It's a quarter past something
Something about what is whispered
Here walking Mystery's foggy streets
It's easy to become paranoid
Sifting through this shifting world
Of dead white, haunting
Every cobblestone step echoing
Ringing like church bells through the night
As I creep among lonely shadows
Our pact never yet broken
For as long as they hide me
Their company I shall keep
And without another wondering thought
I march on, hunched under window pain
Darkened with the dreams of sleep
Past this distraction I'll accept
The hand of night as we take
Every step so delicate, intricate in our
Waltz of silent methodical determination
Against wills we will willingly give
To the pounding pressure presently pressing
Down on this time that is running out
My heart begins to feel the tension tightening
Urgency has crept now into my step
And somehow made his presence known
In my beating chest
With moist palms and parched tongue I continue on
I can feel it slowly stalking now
The thought of which hastens the echo of my steps
Bouncing through the alleys like the laughter of children
Giggling their way through games of hide and seek
Except this game has higher stakes that break
The life of men who fail to take
What precious time that her the merciless fate
Has not so generously poured out upon our plate
Without another fleeting thought
Without another wasted breath
I begin to take full steps
I can feel it coming
Faster closing
Closer, faster
I've almost found my way through Mystery
To the discovery
That the end of this absurd journey
Reveals revelations of nothing
Found nor forgotten
Gained nor gotten
So I'll find a hiding place for me and myself to
Hide away the lonely shadows that keep company
While the morning light begins its search of the streets
Like Light's quiet sentry
But I will stay here
Along with them I will hide
Till the night returns to Mystery
And streets of dead fog beckon
The return of my journey
