Refrain from Pain
A love so deep,
we would drown;
afraid to feel pain,
we hurt ourselves again.
Confident together,
apart we are terrified;
caring beyond friendship,
terrified to let love begin.
An endless cycle of misery,
holding this lovely friendship;
keeping love at bay,
again we hurt one another.
So comfortable in our pain,
that love becomes our fear;
wishing you were near me,
knowing we can't be together.
In order to refrain from pain,
we must keep break our hearts;
keeping our love bound,
rejecting happiness to feel.
Creating our present sorrow,
to borrow from the pain;
so alone we continue,
hoping one day to heal.
