The Eagle Wakes
For many years the Eagle has rested silently and peacefully,
Slumbering carefree in the reassurance of peace and love.
Then one day that slumber was shattered violently,
By a force so intense that it shook the foundation of the world.
Awakened not by the sounds of exploding bombs or alarms,
Not by the sounds of thousands of military forces in aggression.
Awakened not by the sounds of aircraft taking to the sky for war,
Not by the sound of ground assault vehicles in motion.
No, none of these sounds could wake this Great Bird of Freedom,
As these sounds have been heard for generations.
No this Great bird was awakened by the sound of one small still voice,
The voice of one small child crying out in the night asking, "WHY?"
How could anyone inflict the injustice that has been done this day,
How could blood that runs warm through our veins turn so cold.
The Great Eagle looked down on this small child and a tear fell,
That tear fell with such force it was heard world wide.
Now the Eagle sleeps no more, he soars high in the sky-watching,
Watching and waiting to protect this small child so it may grow old.
He will not strike even though in his heart he wants to,
But he will never let his children be hurt again, at any cost.
