The Path Less Taken
When you ponder upon what all you have done,
Keep in mind that you are not the only one.
The love you hold deep within your heart
Was what motivated actions from the very start.
Encouragement, kind words and an outstretched hand,
Having the personality to always help whenever you can.
You’ve always tried to make this world a better place.
Never believing that feelings could get so misplaced.
The beliefs you’ve taught and the advice you’ve given
Was a clean cut path to a most righteous living.
Somehow, somewhere, along your driven way,
Your path began to be cluttered, covered, somewhat decayed.
Storms you’ve battled have ripped and torn at your life,
Leaving behind excessive bundles of debris, grief and strife.
Over time, your path became more difficult to find.
The path was not only entangled, but so was your mind.
Thoughts and decisions, as your path, were now so unclear
And things that you once were afraid, you no longer feared.
You became somewhat selfish, defiant and almost unkind,
Questioning your stance on the once defined moral line.
You just wanted some hope, freedom and control,
As the years were gaining time, wearing mind and soul.
You ventured somewhat and your demeanor was bright.
You had an aura which showed a different light.
You appeared so confident, happy and so full of life.
Until the cold face of reality appeared, directing your path to abide.
You reluctantly trudged through all the clutter and debris,
Traveling on the pathway back to the way things used to be.
Perhaps, somehow, in another place, time, or frame of mind,
This path, less taken, could have been a golden, eternal find.
