I stopped by to see you today
I'd been gone too long I see.
All the roses in your garden were gone
You used to send them to me.
The stems were nicely trimmed,
you did your best as a gardener.
a pink straw hat now sits on the bench
Confirming you'd found a new partner.
You asked me time and time again
if I'd tend that garden with you.
And I always thought I'd have the time
my intentions were strong and true.
So many things got in the way,
stress and deadlines to meet.
Now it seems you've closed the gate
to those roses so bright and sweet.
I'll sit in my window away 'cross town
and dream of those roses again,
hoping that when you're alone at night
you'll think of me, now and then.
