Analysis of Some Days
Sometimes my hometown seems so far away
Trying to walk this broken road
A little further every day.
Sometimes I feel like another man's wife,
Trying to replicate a spirit,
Trying to retrofit a life
Sometimes I wonder how it all fell in,
And when for sure the sinner
Started sleeping with the sin
Sometimes I wish to hell it never went wrong,
But now I know I must be moving on.
Some days the sun comes up,
Some days the moon goes down
Some days I feel so lost that I'll never get found
Some days you grow old waiting
For a heart to come around
Some days a love that's being born
Falls six feet in the ground.
When the just have all gone silent
Then the wicked make the rules
And the only ones left standing
Are the privileged and the fools
But this whole world is turning upside down
And nothing's as it seems
Where are the ends to justify these means?
There ARE no ends to justify these means.
Some days you walk a steady line,
Some days you trip and fall.
Some days your best intentions
Leave you staring at the wall.
But sticks and stones are made of bones
From other painful pasts,
And words become their weapons
As soon as they are cast.
You say bricks are always heavy,
Darkness always rules the night,
The preacher's always righteous
And the hero wins the fight.
But when they go to pull their masks away,
You'll see who rang the bell
And the eyes of those who laid the poison
Down into the well
Sometimes a charlatan can feel so safe and warm
Before he throws you headlong to the storm.

About this poem
A song about breaking free from unhealthy associations, and seeing things for what they really are. This was a personal account about toxic relationships, but has also been regarded as a political statement.
