Analysis of How I Feel

Tara L Mortimer 1985 (modesto)

I can’t describe the way I feel,

It’s like a dream that’s much too real.

Like when you cry but shed no tear,

Or being scared when there’s nothing to fear.

It’s like having everything but nothing at all;

When it’s springtime, but it feels like fall.

When there’s a place to run but nowhere to hide;

When you feel so good, but you’re hurting inside.

It’s like loving someone that doesn’t love you,

Or when you seem so happy, but really you’re blue.

It’s when everything you’ve known suddenly becomes unclear,

Or when you feel you’re getting closer, but you’re nowhere near.

It’s like racing for first but finishing last;

When the future is coming, but you're dwelling on the past.

It’s like getting lost in the most familiar place,

Or looking in the mirror and not recognizing your own face.

It’s like feeling alone in the middle of a crowd,

Or having to whisper when you want to shout out loud.

It’s like spinning in circles when you’re really standing still,

Or trying to explain all these feelings that I feel.
