Analysis of BEFORE ALZHEIMER'S
FrankCalle 1948 (La Habana)
It is inevitable to think about the unlived destiny.
Like it or not, every destiny is already predestined.
I prefer then to read old poems not forgotten,
making time a trip to the past not erased,
remembering and forgetting what lived.
Yes, that's the question: travel to the past,
before the past becomes oblivion.
It is essential to live from what has been lived,
that not being able to live off the forgotten.
Terrible reality not to have lived.
After having lived too long.
It terrifies me to think that in not distant days,
The memories of always are erased from my mind.
It will be like living, dying and being reborn
with no one to remember,
with no one to love,
overwhelmed by photos, memories and old books,
that don't mean anything
perhaps living moments of lucidity,
small temporary moments,
than we have been before.
but just to know
that very soon the past remembered,
will go back into oblivion.
Terrible reality if it were true!
And how paradoxical...
We've always been used to it
to accept the fate of death,
but we refuse to accept
the destiny of forgetting what we have been.
Terrible reality if it were inevitable!
I who fight every day not to be forgotten,
that I have dedicated my life to make a book out of it,
I am not free from losing what I have achieved
nor knowing, in the end, who I am myself..
(Perhaps one day this poem will help me remember myself...)
