Analysis of A Friend

A FRIEND
Since 2015...
Thugs have been in charge.
Rioting, robbing and killing
While they roam free and at large.

They Strike with precision.
Their crimes over in a flash.
Victims lose everything.
Their lives, cars, and cash.

Elected officials not held accountable.
Their rhetoric just hot air.
But, when talks drift to more arrests;
They all scream, "Don't you dare."

Schools dumb down their students.
Been doing it for years.
They've created a new class of people
ill equipped for life and full of fear.

The madness continues.
It seemingly has no end.
It's hard to look to the future.
When you can't find a friend.

A friend is sorely needed.
To bring us from darkness to light.
Someone who'll chase away the demons.
Give us a little peace at night.

A friend who will fix some things.
Do some good and what's right.
Someone we can all support.
With all our voting might.
Just looking...for a friend.

About this poem

Baltimore has experienced over 300 Homicides for the last six years with no end in sight. Nothing seems to work in the city I grew up in anymore. City Hall has been closed for the last two years. Trash, the homeless, and the unrelenting crime has taken on it's toll as evidenced by the exodus out of the city with its dwindling population and increasing vacant houses. If anyone ever needed a friend, Baltimore does. This poem is also a reflection of what's been going on in other democratically controlled cities across the nation.
