Dance with the Devil

He was the kind of handsome that makes you understand why God needed a day of rest.
Impeccably dressed and he gave off an air of charm unsurpassable.

As he crossed the acres-sized ballroom, he passed dozens of some of the most beautiful women alive, unlike myself.
He approached me and very slowly and deliberately held his hand out.

In awe I was, and just as confused…without a word from either of us I took his hand and let him lead me to the middle of the room.

We stood face to face for a moment as he slowly slipped his right arm around my waist and placed his left hand in mine.

A waltz started and so very effortlessly he twirled me about the floor.
He knew every step so very well and executed each so gracefully.
it was if we were both two inches above the floor.

When the song ended, he stopped, suddenly
dipping me so low I could feel it when my curls hit the floor.
He raised me back to my feet at a pace that was magical.

We were not just face to face now, but nearly lips to lips...he kissed me ever so softly that it was hardly a kiss at all.
I felt a spark of energy…a tickle of surprise…a slight warmth throughout my everything.

Abruptly, he stepped back from me…
he thanked me for the dance and turned his back to me.
His walk away was ever so slowly that it almost hurt.

When he reached the other side of the room
he paused for what felt like a day…hauntingly so
he turned to see me as I was wistfully watching him.

In that moment I saw his eyes glow a shade of red I
could not name, and with an evil grin on his lips
he removed a piece of paper from his jacket pocket.
It had a signature at the bottom which was
eerily familiar…. aghast was I when I realized why.
It was obviously my signature….
as my eyes brought it into focus I
saw the header of the document…
It was a contract…for my soul!!!
In the middle it read; “If you want to dance,
you must pay the fiddler.”

A feeling of utter horror filled my thoughts.
I realized then that I had unwittingly danced with the devil himself.
Now I would one day pay the ultimate price for my mistake.
