Analysis of Be My Girl
Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)
Don’t need to lay down and stay down
I need to stay up and pray up
I feel so free now. Why should I sleep?
I remember that I have a promise to keep
I promised to love her for better or worse
This time is the worst, the better was first
Something turned Virginia upside down
So, I’m praying God will turn her around
She’s such a sensitive little girl
She’s Daddy’s princess; a precious pearl
A valuable jewel beyond compare
She’s beautiful that’s why we treat her with care
Come back to me; be my girl
