Analysis of Expectations

There are times when I feel broken,
Not like a record,
But like a vessel that brings forth that next breath,
Twisted often by the expectations,
Where everyone wants you to be so much,
To be more than your strength can bear,
And as you wail in your corner,
Filling the floors with tears,
You lift your eyes and ask why?

Why Lord can my life just be normal?
To be loved and appreciated just as I am,
To be able to just float with the wind,
To be carried away without fear,

Life, it’s hard at times,
The decisions are many,
And those who understand you become less as you grow away from the norm,

Today I feel like screaming,
Like bursting through the wall of restriction,
To hold this moment,
To treasure it like the gem it is,
To not think about the things I cannot change,
To love without the judgements,
I admit it’s a lonely road,
And it seems I’m the only one willing to take the journey,
But I know what I must do,
As my knees wobble and I ask Him why I must do it all alone.

About this poem

It speaks to life's many journeys, the twisted and often difficult paths of life. But there is hope after the rainfall, there is growth around the corner.
