Analysis of Return to God

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Is this the time for you to enjoy
The good weather while it lasts?
I looked all around for righteousness
But I only found a fast
A fast for truth and justice
There was none left in this land
The storm is coming quickly now
A storm brought by God’s hand
He’s much more angry this time
Than he was in times before
My head is bowed but I can’t pray
I only see the floor

“So, do not pray for this people”
This he told me as I listened
Don’t offer up a plea for them
Nor send me their petition
I will not listen to you
I won’t hear the words you say
There’s no one left to be redeemed
All the sheep have gone astray

But tell them to return to me
And I will be their Father
Apart from me there is no God
And earth is not their mother

Who is this Queen of Heaven?
She’s a myth you have created
You worship what your hands have made
And this is what I’ve hated!
