Analysis of Silent echoes
Kaamilah Mangerah 2003 (South Africa)
Shackled to the walls
Not knowing
If today was
Her last
The most prized possession
Taken
Like
A
Speck of dust
Red liquid
Seeped through
Her thighs
The pain,
Excruciating
Her screams,
Unheard
Their laughter,
Mocking
She just
Wanted it
To be
Over

About this poem
A narrative style poem showing how a woman was losing her most prized possession- her virginity. It shows her pain and torture and how she just wants it to be over to forget it all. It's all been watched by many people who are taking turns to have their way with her and her screams of agony are unheard over their laughter.
