Analysis of A Moran no more

GIDRAF MWANGI 1992 (Murang'a)

I am a Maasai Moran
And I will soon be gone
I know tourists love to see me
But I simply have no more run

In days of yore
When I came of age
I would be circumcised
And kill a rite lion

Now I only get circumcised
And God knows for how long
They already robbed my sisters
And I wonder when my time will come

I have been denied my rites
Told there is no right lion to kill
They have even fenced them away
Just to see that am completely damned

In the golden days of old
I was guaranteed a wife
A young sweet circumcised wife
Fully gone through proper rite of passage

Now my wife is called a child
And denied circumcision to make it so
Her rites have been completely mutilated
And she is now exiled in boarding schools

In the old days of grandeur
When the jump was still high
Wealth creation was just a raid away
The old commonly agreed wealth distribution method

Now the raid has been criminalized
And the jump restricted to tourists
Poor and without a 'job'
My only resort is to pose for tourists

What Moran am I then
When I have been robbed of my culture
My wife taken away from me
And I can no longer raid my way to wealth?
