Analysis of It’s all about Maintenance

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Why should you endure a beating?
For doing what is wrong?
Just like a fool who thinks he’s cool,
You’ll sing the world’s song.

I don’t know why this happened to me;
I did nothing to deserve it.
But while you walk in the world’s ways,
You are learning how to serve it!

What did you think you’d get from God?
For ignoring His commandments?
A crown that reads: I followed these,
Until I couldn’t stand it.

A fantasy world is what you live in,
Filled with deceit and lies.
It deadens your heart and controls your mind;
You can’t see with your eyes!

God doesn’t ask a lot of you!
Just follow his Son and believe.
But you can’t do what wisdom says,
Because you’ve been deceived.

Walk for miles and go through trials,
While learning to obey.
But don’t give in, to foolishness,
Is all I have to say.
