Analysis of Leonard, with appreciation…

Frail and homely thin
Pointed Jewish chin
Turtlenecks
Black or fray.
Coffee shops and smokes.
Montreal he pokes.
Scenes and sweets
And sours ‘long the way.
Bakeries, chocolate too
Tourist shops that do
Tout the syrup, maple
Pretty postcards too.
Of moose, loon and pine.
Of Niagara divine.
While oldsters waddle
bagel shop to dine.

Poet he will say
Credentials known today?
Or just a starving
Artist on the lamb.
Lambs OK for Jews.
But this young man
Might choose
To go for HAM
Sweet Canadiens
Yes, for ham.

A stone’s throw
From the spire
Of Notre Dame.
