Analysis of Living Stone
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
The honor is that you believe,
The stone that builders rejected;
As the cornerstone we perceive,
Be the living stone selected.
A stone to some a stumbling block,
They stumble since they disobey;
For being offended by this rock,
And continue going astray.
You have been chosen as His race,
Priesthood of a holy nation;
A people that God shines His grace,
And has given you salvation.
You were called out of the darkness,
And into His marvelous light;
Exposing the evil starkness,
Through His wisdom giving insight.
At one time God gave no mercy,
Because you were not His people;
But He has allowed you to see,
Truth as written in the Gospel.
So I urge you as sojourners,
Expats abstaining from lust;
Going out to become learners,
And in God put your faith and trust.
Passions wage war against the soul,
So conduct yourself with honor;
Let His Spirit maintain control,
While you remain a fawner.
So others see all your good deeds,
And how the Lord is glorified;
The Father caters to your needs,
Since you honor the crucified.
