Analysis of THE LAST WISH
Almighty God, when I go to my grave,
Let me remain true to myself - brave!
Let me not see anxiety spelt over my face.
Let me not think of wealth but your grace.
God Almighty, give my children sound health,
And not minds and hearts that lust for wealth.
I'd rather bequeath to them good education,
Manners, health, wisdom and good reputation.
Keep them away from xenophobia and racism,
Inspire them to embrace equality and pluralism.
Give them hearts that love beyond any boundary,
Be it one of tribe, race, religion, or geography.
While I am still here, keep my soul free,
And give me health to work hard as a bee.
Give me an opportunity, not diamond or gold,
To serve our new nation before I'm too old.
Give each good man and woman an opportunity.
They will also serve our people and country,
And fight poverty, ignorance and disease,
And build a strong prosperous nation, please.
Let me not die of Yellow Fever, Malaria,
Typhoid, managities, Cholera or diarrehia.
Let my die a hero - dying for a cause so good.
Or let me live and serve my people for good.
I won't be remembered as a burglar or a thief,
Or as a man who liked eating too much beef.
I won't be remembered as one of the rich,
Who killed time lying idly on a sandy beach.
God, let all remember me as the one who's angry,
Because a few stole and many souls went hungry.
Let me go to my grave very content with myself,
As a man who put his nation first before himself.
