Analysis of A Flicker of Memory

ANTHONY GAGLIARDI 1977 (Plymouth)

In crawls the break of day
as beaches glitter with the innocence
of a child's eye.

The tide churns ever so slightly
as to lull asleep the blades of grass
that climb honorably to the blue canvas
painting our closest universe.

Hours melt into the bright reflection
of ocean glass smoothed to stone
while minutes gasp their last breath
and accept their extinction.

As an ensuing mist glazes the eyes
of even the busiest soul,
we embrace the warmth
of an old hooded sweatshirt
that once caught rain.
