Analysis of Even For a Moment
Even for a moment
Nothing can fully explain the overwhelming serenity I feel as I sit in awe of such a lovely sight.
I look upon a glimmering lake at the epilogue of winter’s touch, right as the vibrant evergreen hues of spring come peaking through the blankets of crystal blues and frosty whites.
The rays of a new day’s sunrise cascade between the wintery mountain tops, radiating its flourishing beauty as it rests atop the newly sprung meadows and sapphire snowflakes.
In this moment, surrounded by the expanse of this wintery scene, all of life’s worries and the concerns of the past begin to melt away with the fallen snow.
In their place, I find that childhood euphoria and bewilderment that had once been lost beneath insecurities and hoarded regrets. I feel at ease with life, as if all else in the universe has ceased to exist for this one moment.
Time doesn’t exist in this sanctum of mine; a land untouched by humanity. I am freed to exist as the purest form of myself, forgetful of who I once was or could have been.
Memories of my youth flood my senses; adventurous afternoons in the backyard of my childhood home; gales of laughter and imaginative escapades in the play room; the smell of freshly baked cookies, marking the start to a family movie night; delectable hot cocoa and the aromatic pages of a well-worn book amidst the icy winter days.
In this place, this secret garden of wonder and bliss, I find all my favorite things, nourished by the uncharted world around them.
These are the things I yearn for, the youthful dopamine locked away inside these fragments of the untouched past.
All is calm. All is right with the world.
Then you turn your gaze, and in that instance I plunge back into reality, rejuvenated by the afterthought of that blessed oasis.
If only you knew.
If only you knew just what it’s like to get lost in your eyes. Even for a moment.

About this poem
Back when my wife and I were dating, I wanted to write something that captured the sheer comfort and wonder I felt when looking into her eyes. It’s something I continue to compliment about her to this day. She has beautiful blue eyes with some green hues scattered around her pupils, and they never fail to captivate me.
