Analysis of LAND OF THE DEAD

LAND OF THE DEAD

There's blood on his fist
The battle rages while he resists
Now the blood is on his head
In the Land of the Dead

The darkest nights, no fear can hide
The Devil's rattling around inside
Should’ve listened to the words He said
Trapped in the Land of the Dead

Troubled sleep; foggy mind
Grasp for Heaven--Hell you find
Follow Captive, where you are led
No way outta the Land of the Dead

Feel the sting of burning fire
Ravished youth, unholy desire
Rush forward, knocked back instead
Welcome to the Land of the Dead

Wild nights, a constant high
Whispers of love--- all a lie
Never watch where you tread
In the Land of the Dead

The meaningless wears thin
Can't escape the fruit of sin
Is that a Light so far ahead?
Party on in the Land of the Dead

Bright night, burning steeple
Chuch is a place for holy people
Blood flows on, so brightly red
Fruit of the Land of the Dead

See the smile, feel the sneer
They'll never reach in here
See the Thorns on His head?
Only way out of the Land of the Dead

Never crack your solid walls
As one by one every friend falls
Feel the Spirit that you dread
Running again to the Land of the Dead

Open your eyes, open your mind
Look inside, what do ya find?
Nothing but a bloodied bed
In the Land of the Dead

See the Gleaming Cross
Feel the stinging loss
Feel your way ahead
The borders of the Land of the Dead

See the Lord, pierced by nails
Do you join the rebels' yells?
Bow before Him instead
Rejecting the Land of the Dead

See Him in His final breath
Die--- and in dying defeating death
Ponder the things He has said
This Conqueror of the Land of the Dead

See the Risen Lord again
Naming us each as His friend
Going to prepare a place ahead
Refugees of the Land of the Dead
AMEN

About this poem

The realm of the dead below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones— all those who were kings over the nations. They will all respond, they will say to you, “You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us.” All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. Isaiah 14 9-11
